12 Movie Releases We’re Excited About in 2023

We’re pretty excited about going to the theatre more this year, and this release schedule is absolutely stacked. Here’s what we’re most excited about.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods

Release Date: March 17

The most fun character in the DCEU is back and he’s brought his whole family.

John Wick: Chapter 4

Release Date: March 24

The John Wick series is amongst the best action in the past decade, and we expect this one to be no different.

Murder Mystery 2

Release Date: March 31

The first Murder Mystery was a bit of a sleeper hit for Netflix, who’ve figured out that we love comedy mysteries.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie

Release Date: April 7

Hot take: we think Chris Pratt’s voice is just fine.

Chevalier

Release Date: April 7

The real story of Chevalier de Saint-Georges, a Black violinist and composer working in the court of Marie Antoinette.

Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret

Release Date: April 28

Step aside, modern YA, our girl Judy Bloom wrote the best coming-of-age books of all time—and now her best is a movie!

The Little Mermaid

Release Date: May 26

We’re ready to break out one of our favourite Disney soundtracks of ALL TIME!

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse

Release Date: June 2

Miles Morales was making contact with other universes way before the rest of his Marvel pals. Now he’s back with more Spider-friends, although sadly no Spider-Ham.

Elemental

Release Date: June 16

In this latest offering from Pixar, everybody’s one of the four elements—and a water elemental starts falling in love with a fire elemental. There’s probably a joke about things getting steamy in there, but this is a kid’s movie.

Asteroid City

Release Date: July 16

Set in the 1950s, Wes Anderson’s newest film will see the Junior Stargazer/Space Cadet convention interrupted by world-changing events. We don’t know more than that, but we’re guessing that an ensemble cast will give performances of their lifetimes against charming art direction and highly idiosyncratic cinematography.

Barbie

Release Date: July 14

It’s taken a long time for Barbie to get her own major movie, but it’s finally happening.

Oppenheimer

Release Date: July 14

Christopher Nolan’s latest big film will follow J. Robert Oppenheimer as he creates the world’s first atomic bomb.
