10 Clever Uses for AirTags

AirTags are great and inexpensive ways to track stuff. They provide the functionality of Find My iPhone (or tablet, or laptop) with basically anything you can think to stick an AirTag on. And if you have a newer iPhone, you can track them to a metre. They’ll even make a noise when prompted from your phone. You can’t really misplace an AirTag. We tried.

A couple of important caveats first. One, never, ever track someone without their consent. That’s a crime.

Two, if an AirTag is travelling closely to someone who has an iPhone, it’ll let them know. This helps prevent weirdoes from using AirTags to stalk people. Unfortunately, it might render your AirTag less useful for tracking your stolen car—just so you know.

With that, here’s what you can do with AirTags.

Key & Wallet Tracking

It’s infuriating to deal with lost keys or a misplaced wallet. Well, slip an AirTag in your wallet or put one on a keychain (there are many brands) and suddenly these problems are solved in seconds.

Luggage Tracking

Stick an AirTag in your check-in and you won’t be left wondering if your suitcase made it to Vancouver from Winnipeg. For extra security, you can stick one in your carry-on. And if you’re transporting something kind of valuable in your checked luggage, and you’re concerned about theft, attach an AirTag to that object.

Pet Tracking

An AirTag on a keychain fits very easily on a pet collar—but they also make pet collars that fit AirTags, so if you’re not in love with your current collar, that’s a bonus. Whether you’re worried about Fido running off after the mail carrier or you just want to know where your cat disappears to during the day, an AirTag makes a fun pet accessory.

Bike & Scooter Security

Slip an AirTag on these oft-stolen personal vehicles for extra peace of mind.

Remote Control Finder

If you have a remote (or game controller, set of headphones, or other device) always going missing, maybe tape an AirTag to it? Of course, the better option might just be to always have a designated place for your remote.

Child Safety

Depending on your child’s age, an AirTag might be a good way to track them. It’s easy to sew one into a coat or attach them to a book bag.

Senior Safety

Does Grandpa refuse to carry a phone around with him? Well, you can always see if he’d be open to carrying around an AirTag on a keychain.

Track Instruments

Is your child at risk of losing their cello? An AirTag in the case will solve that problem. The problem of a missing cello, that is, not the problem of an absent-minded kid.

Workplace Tool & Equipment Tracker

So many toolboxes go missing from job sites—although missing frequently means being taken by mean jerks, right? Well, throw an AirTag in your toolbox or otherwise attach one to your other pieces of important equipment.

Camera Finder

We knew someone who packed their $2,000 DSLR camera in a piece of check-in luggage. It wasn’t in the luggage after their flight. That’s a situation where an AirTag might have been helpful. Also, it wasn’t someone we knew. It was us.
